This one comes courtesy of tartini. Send your answers to info@cozio.com. The first five to submit the correct answers will receive a free 1-month cozio.com subscription (or an extension to your existing subscription). And remember, you can also earn a 1-month subscription by contributing the next quiz.

We are looking for a European violinist and composer who also performed as a singer. He owned and played many famous instruments,  two of which were made in the same year of the 17th century. Please give the violinist's name and the Cozio ID of the two 17th-century instruments from the same year.

Good luck!

As I've only received 3 correct answers so far, here's a hint: The musician we're looking for was in a public competition with another famous violinist. The two virtuosi died within a year of one another.

OK, we have 5 correct answers now. The violinist was the French violinist Charles Philippe Lafont. He was a professional vocalist before turning to the violin. He owned and played many instruments during his long career. Two by Stradivari were from 1699: 1274 and 1275. In 1812, he performed in a public comeptition with Paganini in Milan. Lafont died in 1939, one year before Paganini.

Congratulations to Yarikanna, pharus, mlv, wth, and ppinyol, and thanks again to Tartini for providing the quiz.
