I would like to submit this violin to your knowledge and hope you can give me some clues about it. I would appreciate any comment regarding it. It is labeled : "Antonius Gagliano Flilius Nicolai fecit Neap 1791". The label is partially detached from the wood. Neck has been grafted. Length is 35,2 cms. Should anyone need some more photos please ask. Thanks.

Reminds me of Wulme Hudson Gagliano copy.
In any case made after 1900. Don't ask me how I know, just call it inside information.

| Hello. Thanks a lot for your kind information. I'd never heard about this luthier but I had gathered some data about him and he seems to be an interesting one... Nevertheless I have been looking inside the violin and haven't been able to find any brand of him. Maybe he made some not branded nor signed instruments?

Lots were not branded, some were.
Take it to somebody reputable. Wulme-Hudson's work is fairly recognizable for those who know it.

| I wonder what that round point up on the back means.... although it`s a very nice piece... best.

Hi,
It reminds me a lot of this one:
http://www.elderly.com/vintage/items/110U-4303.htm
ERNST KREUSLER
VGC, Dresden, circa 1910-1920's, Joanes Gagliano model, strongly flamed two piece back, ebony heel cap, grafted scroll, golden-brown varnish, fine rich tone, with case
I may have a similar instrument.
