Hi' Friends!

The viola is labelled Jacobus Philippus Cordanus fecit Genuae. Anno sal. (or fal.) 1774. Mensur is 36 cm. and body length is 39,3 cm. It is in very good condition with no cracks and the tone is excellent and equal although it has not played for a' long time.

I dont think it is a' real Cordanus maibe an old Bohemian - what is your opinion?

You can se it here www.mauser98.dk/cordanusviola.htm or the attached pics.

Greetings!

Beautiful instrument!! I like it really very much.
I’m not an expert, and it's extremely difficult (at least for me) to determinate if it’s a real “Jacobo Cordano” because there are not so many exemplars of that violinmaker.
However, at first view I would say that it’s an old Bohemian viola, and I tell you, that kind of instruments can sound extremely good. I know (“the bat” can also confirm that… ) someone who plays a viola like that and it sounds gorgeous.
Congratulations!

hi, it doesn't look italian to me i'd rather say east bohemian maybe hungarian (they had a good school there....) around 1810-1840 ca. looks beautiful, with class, and despite of not being italian looks to me tohave a noble and carrying soprano silver sound.
