Although this violin has a very sweet tone (I played it through high school and college), I doubt it is a real Guadagnini.  The interior tag appears to be quite aged, and written by hand in ink it reads, "Lavrentius Guadagnini, fecit Placentie Anno 1745."  Is anyone able to tell if this could possibly be real?  I find the ivory crest near the nut to be quite odd.  Has anyone seen this on a violin before?

The measurements are @58cm in total length and the width is @20.5cm at the widest part.

Thanks!

Chris

Since nobody has replied, I guess I need to break the news. This is definitely not by Guadagnini. I can't identify the maker, though it looks like a 20th-century instrument to me. By the way, the latest research by Duane Rosengard has revealed that Lorenzo Guadagnini, Giovanni Battista's father, wasn't a violin maker  at all. He was a butcher!
