I have a violin that has the following label:

Carlo Tononi Bolognefe

Fece in Venezia 1' A' 1724

The 24 in 1724 is handwritten.

Can anybody tell me anything about this violin?  It's cracked on the face and is missing some parts (Tuning key, Bridge, Bow, etc...).  Everything elae is in tact.   We've had it for many years and never looked at it seriously until this week.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I also have another violin (this is it!  I swear!) labeled:

Bapt. Grancino

Fecil Milano An 19

It's in fairly good shape, bow and all...

same thing, can anybody enlighten me on this or either instrument?

Tony

I'm afraid we can't tell you much of anything without seeing the instruments. Photos would be great!
