Well I became a member of this sight to hopefully seek some help.  My grandfather purchased a violin in an estate sale over 35 years ago and inscribed in the violin is

Anno 1724 Carlo Bergonzi

fece in Cremona

We're trying to figure out if this is an actual Carlo Bergonzi or if it merely a copy.  How may we do so? Looking at the other Violins for sale there are none from the year 1724.

Hi,
a good place to start would be posting pictures here, we can probably give you a good estimate what you have. We'll need a good head on picture of the top, back and sides as well as pictures of the scroll, one of the side and one of the front would be best.
