A Roman Cello
This week's instrument is an extremely well-preserved cello made by the Roman luthier
David Tecchler
in 1701. The instrument was sold by the London dealer
George Withers
in 1893 for £40, and has remained in the same family for over 100 years. It is being offered by
Brompton's
at its Oct. 6 auction with an estimate of £300,000 - £500,000.
